A well-designed, energy-efficient street lighting system should permit users to travel at night with good visibility, in safety and comfort, while reducing energy use and costs and enhancing the appearance of the neighborhood.
Why roadside light needed?
After the destruction of Amphan, the roads of Sunderban have become unfeasible for the locals. The roads are broken by the uprooted trees and also by the tidal surge. It’s harder to reach from one place to other even in the day and anyone can understand how dangerous it is to travel at night. Though Sunderban Islands have gained access to electricity for a couple of years but those are consumed for household purposes. Till today there is no light beside the roads.
Due to the inefficiency of light at night people are forced to complete their everyday tasks during day time. But if they can access bright light after sunset they can work at night also, as urban lifestyle. Thus they will be able to increase the socio-economic value of their society they belong.
Initiative of Mukti in installing electric poles:
While a number of projects have been taken up by both government and private agencies, Mukti is lighting up the lives of people in rural Sunderban by lightening the roads as well as the adjacent areas.
Mukti has planted 3 such electric poles at Purba Sridharpur also called as Model village at Nagendrapur Gram Panchayat. The 3 lights were planted at Mukti SAM office, Mukti library ground and Ramkrishna Bazar. These poles are 9 feet long/ 130 meter and are having 4 LED lights of 20 watt each. West Bengal Electricity Board (WBSEB) is the service provider of these lights. 2,000 villagers of Purba Sridharpur Sarkarpara, Purba Sridharpur Paschimpara, Ramkrishna Bazar and the people of nearest locations are getting the benefits of these lights.
After installation the nearby localities are shining like daylight. Villagers are so happy that they appealed to Mukti for more such lights.
