Natural disasters like flood and cyclone are very common in deltaic Sunderban that affect the lives and livelihoods of thousands of people every year. When cyclone ‘Amphan’ ravaged the coastal districts on 20th May’20 night, it damaged flood control embankments. It also caused cracks on the walls that caused saline water to flush in many areas of Sunderban.
Amphan affected Shitalmati village under Kankandighi Gram Panchayat. The Saline water flooded the areas of Shitalmati as well as the ponds. The pond water became salty which the locals cannot use for any household work. The fresh water fishes died as they can’t survive in salty water. Dirty water in further run can be the birth place of mosquitoes by which Malaria like dieses can spread.

Mr. Kush Kumar Pramanik and Mr. Arup Kumar Pramanik both are the inhabitants of Shitalmati village requested Mukti to drain out the saline water from their ponds as everyday 10-12 families (5-6 in each pond) use their pond water.
Responding to their call Mukti at once sent volunteers to drain the pond water. Mukti volunteers cannot ignore their responsibilities towards society at any sphere of life.
