Safeguarding Training of Trainers: Ensuring Child Safety through Knowledge and Action

MUKTI, in collaboration with Headways (a partner of the OAK Foundation), has successfully developed a comprehensive Child Safeguarding Policy. Taking a significant step towards implementing this policy, a crucial meeting was held on the 13th of June 2023. The purpose of the meeting was to plan and strategize the effective execution of the policy. As part of this implementation process, a three-day residential training program, titled “Safeguarding Training of Trainers,” was organized for selected trainers from various fields. The training took place from the 19th to the 21st of June and witnessed the participation of 20 individuals, including two interns.

The meeting commenced with an introduction and a discussion on the workshop’s purpose, providing a clear understanding of the importance of safeguarding. Participants were enlightened about the key components of safeguarding through informative sessions. To ensure a comprehensive grasp of these components, the attendees were divided into groups and assigned specific components to delve into, fostering a deeper understanding and developing effective delivery mechanisms.

 

Further emphasis was placed on Risk Assessment and Mitigation, exploring strategies to integrate these crucial practices into the organization’s day-to-day operations. The trainers were encouraged to consider the incorporation of safeguarding principles into existing organizational policies, recognizing the importance of a holistic approach.

As the training progressed, participants gained valuable insights into evolving systems of reporting and redressal for safeguarding violations. They were provided with the necessary tools and knowledge to handle such sensitive situations effectively. Moreover, the training equipped the trainers with the practical skills required to communicate and train others on the initiation and implementation of the safeguarding policy.

The objectives of this training were multi-faceted. Firstly, it aimed to ensure that participants developed a thorough understanding of the concept and necessity of safeguarding within Indian organizations. Secondly, the training sought to provide a clear perspective on Risk Assessment and Mitigation, emphasizing its integration into all aspects of the organization’s operations. Additionally, participants were encouraged to comprehend the significance of integrating safeguarding principles across organizational policies. Furthermore, the training aimed to familiarize attendees with evolving systems of reporting and redressal for safeguarding violations. Finally, the program aimed to provide participants with hands-on experience in effectively communicating and training others on the implementation of the safeguarding policy.

Overall, the “Safeguarding Training of Trainers” served as a crucial stepping stone in promoting a culture of child protection within the organization. By empowering trainers with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to implement the Child Safeguarding Policy, MUKTI and its partners aim to create safer environments for children and foster a collective commitment toward their well-being.
