Cyclone Amphan – described as one of the strongest storms in the Bay of Bengal this century – made landfall on 20th May’20 in the coastal border area of India and Bangladesh. The cyclone also destroyed farmland in West Bengal’s low-lying coastal areas, such as Sunderban, damage that will likely endanger livelihoods. Amphan caused extensive damage to standing crops and plantations, uprooted trees, destructed houses and river embankments, flooded areas with saline water and so on.
