Mukti has started potting vetiver grass for propagation on a large scale. This work is being done over a small area on the river embankment of the Bhubaneswari River at Damkal. 30,000 saplings are being potted for propagation. Mukti has targeted to plant 50,000- 60,000 saplings this year. 10 women are engaged in potting the saplings.
Small poly bags are being used for propagation. The size of the poly bags is 4 cm long when filled with soil weighing 400 grams. Basically, this method is followed under various development projects in the initial stages of an operation. The technique ensures a better survival rate and faster establishment of the vetiver grass. Saplings produced following this technique are suitable for direct transplanting on the land for soil and water conservation. After 4 to 5 new spouts come out, the saplings will be lifted from the pot and planted on the riverside slope of the river embankment.
