After the meeting with the volunteers” Mukti Board of Trustees” and “Mukti Yaas Committee Task Force” decided to start relief and rehabilitation programs for the “Yaas” affected families throughout Sundarban in an immediate basis.
Cyclone Yaas has damaged all the potable water recourses with saline water. Salt water from the rivers has gushed into the villages through breaches in the embankments filling up the sweet water ponds and hundreds of tube wells are still remaining submerged in saline water even now. Villagers are in dire need of potable water. To protect them from the water bound diseases, Mukti volunteers reached to them at the earliest convenience with a tank full of potable water to ensure villagers can get enough water they need.
There are 200-300 villagers’ lives in Purba Sridhrapur. People from far away distance came by boats to get safe drinking from Mukti not only for themselves but for their cattle too.
Twice a day, Morning and evening, Mukti volunteers are going to the flooded areas of Purba Sridharpur with 2000 litre (each time) of drinking water. Villagers are collecting water with bucket, drums etc. Mukti volunteers are serving them with as much water they need for a day.
Mukti will continue this service everyday till the situation improves.
