With the support of Mukti, ASFHM (Advanced Society for Headmaster and Headmistresses) team of Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal has opened 10 coaching centers in 8 villages including Kishalaya School (class I- IV) and Support Schools (class V- XII) at Sahara GP under Egra PS. These schools are meant for underprivileged children so that they can access quality education.
Most part of the East Midnapore district is inhabited by tribal people. They mainly belong to SC, ST or BPL communities. Usually, they are migrant laborers or work as daily help in some others’ houses. Many of them lost their job during the lockdown period. The children of these families, especially students from class I to VI are dropping out of school due to long school closures and none of the parents are particularly interested in sending their children to school. ASFHM team has noticed the problem and they have immediately decided that they should do something for these children. They have to bring them back to the field of education.
The ASFHM team has undergone a survey, pointed out the problems and how to overcome them. They visited every individual’s house and make the people understand the importance of quality education and literacy. To make those school dropouts interested in coming back to school again, the ASFHM team is providing free education or with very low fees. They have distributed stationery items for the students and also have provided healthy snacks like – eggs, chickpea, cake etc. from Monday to Friday every week.
Their hard work has paid off. At present, there are 342 students in these 10 centers. 21 teachers are spontaneously providing education to these students. They have named the schools “Kishalaya School” and “Sikkha Sathi Support School”.
Since Mukti has the experience and as per the accordance with the ideals of Mukti the schools have been created, so in all cases from school creation to management they have moved forward with the advice of Mukti. They regularly communicate with the Mukti officials via video conference. Very soon Mukti will visit these schools in East Medinipure.
The schools have awakened the villagers in an unprecedented way. They are repeatedly appealing to ASFHM to open some more schools. With their request, some schools will be opened soon.
