Mukti Starts the Celebration of Environment Day with the Inauguration of d New Mangrove Plantation Site at Damkal

This year, Mukti has planned to organize several events to mark the occasion of “World Environment Day” 2022 and its theme “Only One Earth”. To observe the day and a sustainability month Mukti has engaged all stakeholders by conducting several awareness programs across its operating locations. Mukti dedicated the month of June to nature. What could be more significant to the people of the Sundarbans than mangrove plantations to celebrate nature?

On 1^st June 2022 Mukti to celebrate the “World Environment Day” 2022 inaugurated a new mangrove plantation at Damkal Bhangar Khal under Mathurapur block II of Sundarban. Plantation work will be carried out over an area of about two kilometers along the banks of the river Moni. Mangroves are being planted on the rive side slope of the river embankment, Dragon Fruit and Coconut saplings will be planted in the countryside of the river embankment.

The plantation program has been inaugurated by Mr. Somenath Mukherjee, Mr. Partha and Mr. Madhusudan Bairagi along with other staff of Mukti. On the first day, approx 500 mangrove saplings have been planted. The plantation program will continue until Mukti is able to create a dense mangrove forest on the barren slope of the river embankment.

10 MCDF (Mukti Community Development Fund) members along with 2 supervisors are engaged in the plantation program.
