People in Amphan-hit Dakshin Kankandighi, Mundapara have been facing an acute drinking water crisis as saline water gushed into villages during the cyclone, destroying their sources of safe water including ponds and tube-wells. During the devastating cyclone saline water flooded ponds and water bodies, making their water impotable. Either people are forced to use saline water for various purposes for the lack of pure drinking water or they have to cover about a kilometer path walking to collect drinking water.
Mukti in association with “GAABESU” and “AID “rushed at Mundapara, Dakter Gheri and Purba Jata Hatuyar Gheri under Kankandighi Gram Panchayat and Mathurapur Block II with mineral (RO) potable water. 70 families from each village are getting 1,500 liter (20 liter each on average) of water every day through this program. Mukti volunteers supervised the whole process thoroughly so that everyone can get adequate water and no one gets deprived.
The whole process was conducted by maintaining social distancing and safety measures.
It’s an ongoing project, still to go a long way.
