Despite undergoing additional weakening, Cyclone Amphan remained an extremely dangerous storm as it made landfall over eastern India and Bangladesh on 20th May’20 afternoon as the equivalent of a Category 3 hurricane. The fury of devastation is unthinkable. Many trees and electric poles were uprooted. Breach of river embankments have also been reported from various areas of Sundarbans, Sagar Island, Kakdwip, Namkhana in South 24 Paraganas, Large number of mud houses have also been damaged in different areas of Sunderban. Water levels of different rivers are at spate.
Despite all difficulties, Mukti remains steady on path of service to the society. Mukti has launched various programs to help the vulnerable population. Mukti is providing relief to many of the localities of Sunderban like Uttar (North), Dakhin (South) Haripur and Chandanpiri under Namkhana Block. 400 families were provided grocery items which included Rice, Dal ,Potato, Mustard Oil etc.
Karmadhakshya of Fisheries Department, Namkhana Panchayat Samiti and Fishary Extension Officer and In-charge of Disaster Management of Namkhana Block were present to distribute the relief items to the villagers. Zilla Parishad member of South 24 Parganas and Ex Pradhan of Haripur Gram Panchayat, Namkhana Block were also there. They appreciated Mukti for helping the victims of AMPHAN at their area with relief items.
