The National Centre of Advocacy Study (NCAS) organized a comprehensive 3-day residential training program from June 22nd to June 24th, 2023. The training took place at Diamond Harbour as part of the Amplifying Community Voices (ACV) project, and it aimed to equip participants with a solid foundation in various aspects of the three-tiered Panchayat system.
Five members from the Mukti ACV team were fortunate to attend this enlightening training program. The sessions covered a wide range of topics, including the basics of the Panchayat system, the election process, the intricate structure of Panchayats, and the crucial roles they play in local governance. Furthermore, participants gained valuable insights into the financial management practices of Panchayats and were introduced to the provisions of the Right to Information Act (RTI) of 2005.
Facilitating the training were Mr. Victor Sikder and Mr. Gokul Roy, both Assistant District Training Coordinators at the Department of Panchayat & Rural Development. Their expertise and guidance ensured that the participants received the most up-to-date and relevant information. Additionally, Mr. Debasish Shyamal, a respected member of the “Dakshin Banga Matsyajibi Forum”, provided invaluable perspectives on creating a potential field for community-led advocacy.
The training program not only enhanced the participants’ understanding of the Panchayat system but also equipped them with the necessary knowledge and tools to gradually establish a strong platform for community-led advocacy. It was a truly enriching experience, thanks to the dedication and expertise of the trainers and the active participation of the Mukti ACV team members.
