Mukti on 14th August 2022 has organized a meeting with the marginalized section of the society at Mukti library. 10-12 such families of Mukti gram have been invited to discuss improving the quality of life that they are going through now and to support them with a sustainable livelihood option. There are different traditional occupational communities in Sundarban which has been marginalized due to their low socio-economic status and are outside the mainstream setup. These occupations are being passed from generation to generation and require hard labor and are not well paid to have a good standard of living. Most of them catch small fishes and crabs in a nearby canal, pond and river, cut firewood from the forest or work as daily laborers without any fixed income. Mukti with the presence of Mr. Sankar Halder – Founder- President of Mukti has organized this meeting to share with them a better idea about an improved way of life and livelihood.
They have been said to list their yearly expenses on food, clothing, shelter, education, entertainment and medical issues and from where they manage those expenses. It has been noticed that in almost all cases, a family of 4 is spending Rs. 4,500 per month. In today’s fire-priced market, that’s a no-brainer. Mr. Halder proposed they work for Mukti. Mukti will support their family expenses but in return, they have to work on different projects for Mukti as a better living opportunity. The adult male members have to work for 8 hrs. – 5 days a week and an adult women member has to work for 5 hrs. – 5 days a week. Rest of the 2 days they can work on their own family chores.
They have accepted the proposal and have assured their assistance to work with Mukti
