Mukti in association with “Rotary Club of Calcutta, Metro South” has initiated “Honey Bee Keeping in Sundanban” drive. Under this initiative, Mukti has installed 60 honey bee boxes at Mukti gram among which 30 are placed at Mukti Library premises and the other 30 at SAM (Sustainable Agricultural Movement) office premises. Mukti has appointed a specialized beekeeper to take care of the beehives.
Mukti has installed honey bee boxes for medium size Italian bees as their gentle nature and productivity provide a great way for new beekeepers to become comfortable around bees.
Inside a wooden box, there are 9 cells where bees will make their hives. Honey can be collected after 15 days if bees can get enough amount of flowers to produce honey.
In the future, the collected honey will be purified and marketed by Mukti. Through this project, more people will be connected with Mukti and a new horizon of livelihood will be opened.
