Mukti horticulturists Jhantu Charan Maity and Gofur Molla along with Satyen Khatuya – associated with the Mukti environment program have participated in a 5 days horticulture skill training program at Sujit nursery, Muchisa in South 24 Parganas district. The training has been scheduled from 1st to 5th September 2022. The training has been accomplished by the trainer Mr. Asit Sardar through a combination of lectures, practical sessions and skills training delivered to the trainees five hours each day. Skills knowledge and acquisition are assessed regularly by the trainer.
During the 5 days of training on the first day, the trainees learned to identify various types of plants and their features like Pentas, Anthurium, Croton, Duttapriya, Orkeria, Mussaenda, Mandevilla, Malfizia, Arolia, Sakalara, Rozina, Green Desina, Peace Lily, Hello Cronia, Mariyana etc.
2nd day – the trainees gained knowledge on the preparation of soil. They have been instructed to mix 30% cocopeat, 30% compost, 20% soil, 20% sand, 2 spoons of neem shell, 2 spoons of bone powder, 1 spoon of seaweed, 1 spoon of organic fungicide and paddy husk together while preparing the soil for good yield.
3rd day – The trainer introduced them to the different types and techniques of cutting. They are acquainted with four types of cutting – stem cuttings, leaf cuttings, root cuttings and single node cuttings and also have been trained to gain knowledge over collection and storage.
4th day – Mukti horticulturists are taught the method of grafting plants for propagation. They have learned different types of grafting like Bark Graft, Side-Veneer Graft, Splice Graft, Whip and Tongue Graft, Saddle Graft, Bridge Graft, Inarch Graft etc.
5th day – On the last day of the training, they learned to recognize particular plants suitable for cutting and grafting. They have been taught which method to follow on which plants to get better yields. In the last three days, both practical and theoretical lesions have been provided to them.
After the training Mukti horticulturists will train the women workers working in Mukti Nursery.
The trainees have expressed their satisfaction with the conduct of the training program and opined that they have learned many latest and new scientific horticultural management practices to implement under real farm situations.
