On May 20, post noon, Super Cyclone Amphan made landfall in the Sunderbans between West Bengal-Bangladesh’s coasts in a slightly weakened of a ‘very severe cyclonic storm’, leaving behind a trail of devastation in West Bengal. Major population of the vulnerable communities has lost their homes and livelihoods. Due to dual effect of Covid-19 and cyclone Amphan, there was a huge shortage of food and drinking water supplies were contaminated. The bigger pandemic other than Covid-19 ruling through Sunderban is hunger. At this difficult situation, Mukti ensured adequate availability of grocery items especially rice, so that marooned people are provided with immediate sustenance.
Mukti volunteers are stepping up their efforts to continue to deliver essential services to the needy; Mukti in association with “Kolkata Gives Foundation” , organized a relief distribution program at Kalidaspur Dakshinpara village under Gosaba Block.
Each of the 94 families received Rice – 1kg, Dal – 200 Gram, Potato – 200 Gram, Salt – 500 Gram, Dhania Powder – 1 packet, Chilly Powder – 1 packet, Biscuit – 1 packet, Cake – 1 packet, Candle – 2 pieces and Match Box – 1 piece.
