On 13th July 2022, a value education workshop has been conducted by Mukti in association with “Vivek Pathe” for the 36 teachers of 12 MSS of Canning block. On behalf of Mukti and “Vivek Pathe,” the facilitators of the program are Mr. Samar Kr Das, Ms. Pritha Das & Ms. Nandita Jayraman. The discussion topic/module of the orientation program has been – Understanding the behavioral approach, teacher-student relationship and basic perspective building workshop.
Objective – The program is specially designed to understand the present mindset, values and behavior of the teachers and how the teacher-student relationship is being maintained and what kind of efforts are being given by the teacher in order to develop a healthy relationship with their students.
Cause of conducting the program – before entering into the core topic of value education, it is important to establish a strong connection/bonding between student and teacher so that it will help to develop a positive ground for both teacher and students where the further process can be conducted with relatively fewer challenges.
Process – The workshop started with a general introduction. Then the objective has been shared with the participants by Mr. Samar Kumar Das. After introductions, participants are requested to share their childhood experiences. Few of them shared their emotional journey during their adolescence.
After finishing the initial part, the participants were divided into 4 groups and each group got a teacher-student situation and they were instructed to play the role to show how they react/respond in such situations.
Issues Identified in the role Play –
The discussion was started by identifying such issues and a few perspectives were shared to identify the causes for such issues.
How a positive behavior can be developed to be non-judgmental and less punitive was also discussed after the role-play session.
The ideal reactions toward the sensitive issues have been discussed at the preliminary level.
The difference between conversation and communication has been discussed with several practical examples.
While expressing their experience one of the teachers says, “I really like this program. I realized that as a teacher what are my strong points and what do I lack. The psychological aspects of this session are very valuable. I hope I will be able to build better relationships with students in the future. I express my gratitude to Mukti and Vivek Pathe for organizing such a skillful and informative program.”
