Today morning at about 9:30 AM Mukti had a virtual meeting with the team leaders of four regions. Volunteers long with their leaders of Raidighi, Canning, Kakdiwp and Puro Medinipur attended the meeting.
Though the cyclone “Yaas” hadn’t directly hit Sundarban, but it had wreaked large scale damages to human habitats and farmlands. The storm surge triggered by the cyclone, which coincided with the perigee spring tide because of Wednesday’s full moon, caused an extraordinary rise in the water level in several rivers. The damage is maximum in the coastal districts of East Midnapore and South 24 Parganas.
Thousands of people lost their home, their livelihood. They are in dire need of food, safe drinking water and shelter.
For those victims of “Yaas”, Mukti, in an emergency basis has activated all the volunteers to start the relief and rehabilitation work. Mukti volunteers have formed small groups to combat the situation. At the very initial stage Mukti will provide dry food and safe potable water. The river embankment rebuilding works have already been started. Very soon the de-salination work of the ponds will also start.
Mukti can’t do all the relief works by itself. Mukti need your help to raise fund. Mukti appeals to everyone to stand with us so that together we can save precious lives.
Considering pandemic situation and water bound diseases are likely to spread we need help on medical ground with medicines, mask, sanitized, sanitary napkins, bleaching etc.
Agriculture rebuild and food safety work are being planned and will start as soon as water goes out from agricultural fields.
Similarly for the safety of the villages’ small, medium and large scale river bank rebuild is important. This work will start along with other organizations. This is a very necessary and massive work to be done.
In the time of extreme danger you all were there with Mukti. Mukti hopes that this time also your support will be with us.
