The poor rural people have far worse health indicators than the urban population. People, living in remote rural hamlets of Sundarban where illiteracy, trying physical environments, malnutrition, inadequate access to potable water, and lack of personal hygiene and sanitation make them more vulnerable to disease. This is compounded by the lack of awareness among these populations about the measures needed to protect their health, their distance from medical facilities, the lack of all-weather roads and affordable transportation, insensitive and discriminatory behavior by staff at medical facilities, financial constraints and so on.
Mukti, to raise their health awareness and improve their accessibility to specialized primary health care has taken an initiative to organize special health check-up camps at Mukti Gram Clinic at Purba Sridharpur. “Kolkata Foundation” is supporting Mukti for the cause. Every month 3 such camps will be organized where patients can treat themselves by specialized qualified doctors. The main focus of this initiative is to provide high-quality primary care in totally free of cost to the deprived and underprivileged communities of Sundarban.
Mukti is grateful to “Kolkata Foundation” for supporting underprivileged patients with specialized care.
As the first step of this initiative on 31st May 2022 Dr. Dharmaraj Haldar – MBBS doctor from Raidighi Hospital has visited Gram clinic and has treated 16 patients. The camp has been operational from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm. Patients suffering from general diseases like acidity, tonsillitis, arthritis, sore throat, common cough and cold have been treated with care. Every patient has been given free medicine as per the doctor’s prescription. The doctor has prescribed some tests for the patient suffering from tonsillitis.
The patients express their gratitude to Mukti and “Kolkata Foundation” and they have been very happy to receive treatment from a qualified doctor.
