A 10-day training program on “Manufacture of Jute Handicrafts” was held to empower women to maximize their income. The training was part of the Schedule Caste Sub-Plan, of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and was organized at Basanti block, Sundarbans from 25th – 4th November 2022. 20 trainees of the Basanti MCDF (Mukti Community Development Fund) branch participated in this program. The program was inaugurated by the senior technical officers Dr. Prosenjit Sanyal, Dr. R. K. Mishra and Dr. S. Das of ICAR.
During the week-long session, training was imparted for designing and making shopping bags, lady’s purses, tiffin bags, and other designer bags by the ICAR trainer Mr. Kamal Hussain. Trainees were supported with a kit box containing 24-25 items including scissors, one packet of needles, tape, 6-7 jute combs etc.
ICAR will provide certificates and artisan cards to the trainees and will assist them in selling their products.
