It’s almost a month Aila devastated the Sunderban area. Still many embankments are not reconstructed yet. As a result saline water from sea is flooding agriculture land and pond during every high tide.
Ghanashyam Nagar GP of Patharpratima Block is one of the most Cyclone-Aila affected areas of Sunderban. More than 4 KM embankment was affected and not been reconstructed when Mukti started this project.
One joint program was initiated by Mukti, Ramakrishna Mission and Government of West Bengal (Sunderban Development Board). The main slogan of this program was “Amader Bandh Amrai Bandho”(We will build the embankment by Our Own).
The project was overwhelmed with supports from various levels of society and more than 3,500 villagers (Men and Women) started working from morning. Within a day villagers have managed to re-build 4 KM embankment and now the entire GP is safe from the high tide.
Mukti supported the program by providing 2 KG of rice for every worker, whereas Ramakrishna Mission provided cooked lunch and dinner and Sunderban Development Board provided one Saree to women worker and towel to men worker.
The program was very much appreciated by every one including media. Moreover the program was being closely monitored by Chief Minister of West Bengal.
