Children from “Mukti Putul Dal” (Mukti Puppet Group) performed a puppet show to raise awareness of the environment and health on 10th October 2022, Monday on the occasion of Laxmi puja at Purba Sridharpur Samiti Bhaban. The theme of the show was “Ebar aar sabdo baji noy , atosbaji tei jano dipawali hoy” (Let us celebrate Kali puja with fireworks instead of crackers) and was intended to create awareness about air-sound pollution and its effects on the environment as well as human health.
Mukti is trying to focus on the usefulness of puppetry as a social transformer. Shifting the focus of theatre to therapy has enabled puppetry to go one step further from a form of entertainment. IIt is incorporating complex social issues into its themes and presenting complex social concepts in a simple, easily understandable way.
Dip Pramanik- a young boy – performed the awareness act whereas Rita Pramanik – a young girl – performed a Lakshmi Puja song. The audience appreciated the children’s efforts with applause. Their small efforts have been considered as a commencement of big transformations.
Mukti is hopeful that once people are able to gain an understanding of how social and environmental conditions can impact individuals and their surroundings, they will articulate their thoughts in their actions.
