Mrs. Pramila Mondal, a member of Amplifying Community Voices (ACV), has made a significant impact on her community by increasing the accountability of local duty bearers to address drinking water issues through community-led advocacy. Living in Herembogopalpur GP of South 24 Parganas district, she witnessed the villagers facing a terrible drinking water crisis due to the damage of 2-3 tube wells. With no knowledge of how to apply to the Panchayat for help, the situation seemed hopeless. However, Pramila and other ACV members stepped in and utilized their knowledge to apply to the Panchayat for repairing the tube wells, following the proper procedures. Through their appeal, the Panchayat provided some help, and the ACV Herembgopalpur branch collected money through subscriptions from the villagers. With a concerted effort, the tube wells were repaired, and the problem of drinking water in the area was eliminated.
Pramila’s determination and leadership have served as an inspiration to others, showing the power of collective action and community-led advocacy in bringing about positive change. Pramila’s story is an inspiration to others who may be facing similar challenges, showing that with the right support and collective effort, it is possible to make a real difference in improving people’s lives.
