Mr. Krish Ghosh, representative of NABC/CAB (North American Bengali Association/ North America Cultural Association of Bengal) visited Mukti Gram on 24th and 25th April 2022. They have been supporting the cyclone tolerant housing project, village electrification, 7 Kishalaya schools and roadside plantation.
On 24th April 2022, Sunday he reached Mukti Library at 12 pm. Mr. Sankar Halder – Founder – President of Mukti, Mukti staff, volunteers and MCDF members welcomed them with bouquets. In the afternoon Mukti staff assist them to visit the central gardens of Mukti. He visited the Mukti Central Garden to see how the seedlings are made, the seeds are stored and how the seedlings are nurtured. He has talked with the “Mukti Saathi” working in the nursery. He then visited Cyclone Tolerant Housing Project sites and returned to the Library where he gives his feedback on the housing project.
While sharing his feedback he says that he is amazed to see these model houses made by Mukti. He has been invited by Mr. Sankar Halder to visit this wonderful village, Mukti Gram. These houses are the prototype model of the cyclone and floodproof single houses or huts. All of them are two-storied. This type of structure can resist 15 feet height of surge as well as 200 wind speeds. Natural materials have been used and it also is cost-effective. Mukti has appointed qualified architects and engineers to build such kinds of houses. Even economically backward people can afford these houses. Mukti is ready to provide technology and partial funding. NABC and CAB for the last 1 year have been collaborating with Mukti so that the people of Sundarban can be protected from the wrath of nature. NABC for now is funding 50 houses. 20 houses have been already made and others are being created. Tomorrow he will visit some other prototype houses that have been built in imitation of these houses. Mukti has made these houses 1 year back but for the good maintenance still, they are looking like they have been built just a couple of months back. It’s a wonderful job done by Mukti and he hopes that this kind of structure will be adopted by the local population as this is low-budget housing as well as structurally sound. It will definitely improve the quality of life of the Sundarbans people.
In the evening he has enjoyed a boat ride for 2 hours, sighted the scenic beauty of the river and the vast mangrove forest laying on both sides of the river. After sunset, he roams around the village to inspect the street lights under the village electrification project of Mukti that has been illuminating the dark night.
The next day morning on 25th April 2022 Monday at first he visits 4 out of 7 Kishalaya schools (sponsored by NABC). He has conversations with the teachers and the students. He quires how the studies are going on and how can he help if anything is needed. After visiting Kishalaya Schools he went to meet the students and teachers of Purba Sridharpur Mukti Support School (MSS). He has interacted with the students as well as teachers.
Gradually he visits other projects of the model village – micro nursery, landscaping, poultry farm, incubator machine, mangrove project, vetiver plantation, dragon nursery, coconut nursery, plantation and 12 model houses that are being built in imitation of model houses.
