To ensure hygienic quality of water with its effective bactericidal activity in water, Mukti had started distributing halazone tablets among the Yaas affected people.
Due to the surge in the tide as a consequence of the full moon that day, the intense cyclone Yaas ravaged the Sundarbans. As the embankments were damaged, previous farmland was destroyed as saline water flooded in.
The flood water has begun to recede leaving the potable water sources poisonous with the rotten debris and dead animal bodies. Thirsty Sundarban need a safe drinking water source to quench their thirst.
It will take time for water and sanitation services to be restored, and for vector- and pest-control activities to be carried out. At this time the high risk of getting infected by the water born diseases also increase.
In order to take care of the heath of the villagers of the most affected areas, Mukti provided halazone tablets to make water free form bacteria and germs. 1 tablet has to be dissolved in 1 litre of water to make the water potable.
On 26th and 30th June Mukti distributed halazone tablets to 1234 villages of Namkhana and Kakdwip Blocks.
