Mukti Participated in the PVCA First Phase Training at Patharpratima

A centralized workshop was organized by Rupantaran Foundation and Development Research Communication and Services Centre (DRCSC) on 22^nd Jan 2021 at the Patharpratima Block. Mukti had participated in this workshop along with other partners for the ‘Amplifying Community Voices at Patharpratima’ supported by Oak Foundation.

The workshop was aimed to gain understanding of the participatory process to identify the most difficult life in the community and zero-in on key groups of focus through vulnerability listing and scoring and to gain understanding of how to prepare a social map, and mark the households of the zeroed-in groups to focus.

The   entire   workshop   was   designed   in   such   a   way   that   it   would   be   a   combination   of gaining knowledge, demonstration and reflection. Training methods like discussions, presentations, demonstrations were practiced to impart the various sessions.

The  participatory  vulnerability  group  listing  &  scoring  was  facilitated  by resource persons of  Rupantaran Foundation. They    demonstrated    on how     to     list     the vulnerable/marginalized   communities   in a    participatory    way.    Participants    were encouraged    to    define    source    of    power and identify      the      powerless      or the marginalized   groups   in   the   area.   Participants were taught to score   the   vulnerable   groups. Each hub was given the task to conduct this exercise at their respective places to identify the vulnerable groups.

The      social      mapping      exercise      was facilitated     by    DRCSC. The trainer demonstrated the preparation of social mapping.  He showed the marking of the important centers like the places of   worship,   schools, sub-centers,    major    water    sources, roads, etc. and finally marking the vulnerable households. Each hub was given the task of developing a social map for each village.

The participants   were   told   to   rate the  experience  of  being  the  part of  this  journey  in  the  five  scale rating  tool.  All the participants rated in the positive   portion   of   the   rating tool,    all    of    them    rated    the experience        in        a        positive manner. This showed they liked the workshop quite a lot and were able to connect with the issue.

At the end , a participatory   self   –   assessment   was  also conducted   where   the   participants   themselves rated themselves in terms of knowledge, skill and confidence of the issue.

More such workshops on tools of PRA and PVCA are planned to be conducted for capturing the vulnerability and capacity analysis of each vulnerable  group.
