Around the world, one in three girls face inadequate sanitation, and many others face social and cultural limits during their periods. Access to safe sanitation is extremely important for women and girls during their menstrual cycles.
Clean Water, Sanitation and Hygiene is the basic minimum requirement of women during menstruation. In such conditions when AMPHAN snatches away every means of life, access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene can be a matter of life and death. Common outcomes of unhealthy menstruation management can be dermatitis, urinary tract infections (UTIs), which can be fatal if the kidney is damaged, genital tract infection, alteration in the pH balance of vaginal secretions, bacterial vaginosis, all leading to increased susceptibility to cervical cancer. These infections also tend to impact women the most when they’re pregnant or trying to get pregnant.

After AMPHAN destructed Sunderban, there is a need to advocate for better menstrual health for every woman especially of marginalized sections. Following the belief that women have the right to choose for their health, while they lost the purchase power to buy sanitary napkins, restricted mobility and disrupted supply, Mukti in association with “Rangeen Khidki Foundation” ( works in the space of gender, sexual and reproductive health rights) started to provide information and access to good quality and affordable products like sanitary napkins and essentials.
Mukti organized a sanitary napkin distribution program at Nagendrapur Gram Panchayat under Mathurapur Block 2. Women of 7 villages – Adibasipara, Baradanagar, Santrapara, Domkal, Purbasridharpur, Prodhanpara and Keoratala got benefitted through this program. Mukti distributed 150 napkins at Adibasipara, 100 pieces at Baradanagar, 190 pieces at santrapara, 40 pieces at Domkal, 20 pieces at Purbasridharpur, 140 pieces at Prodhanpara and 100 pieces at Keoratala.
At Kankandighi Gram Panchayat under Mathurapur Block 2 there are two villages where Mukti distributed Sanitary Napkins. At Purkait para 150 pieces and at Swasti Nager 100 pieces of sanitary napkins were distributed.
Menstrual health will be achieved not only through smart and safe products, but the shift in attitudes and behavior towards better hygiene. Mukti works towards that direction so that right knowledge is available to have the right mindset to lead a safe and healthy life.
