The Fragile delta of Sunderbans, an UNESCO world heritage site, is one of the worst affected areas by cyclone Amphan. After Amphan made landfall, the sea water breached mud embankments and entered into villages, submerging acres of agricultural land and ponds, destroying crops and killing the fresh water fish.

Lakhs of farmers are estimated to have been hit by Amphan. These villages faced the fury of cyclone Aila in May 2009. They had seen their homes, their farm lands and their source of livelihood get ravaged. It took them more than a decade to rebuild their lives, only to see a bigger horror unfold.
When Amphan made landfall, the 32 embankments which prevented the sea water from coming into the land were breached. Mukti realized that the mud barricades (almost 2 Km.) needed repair as soon as possible. Mukti motivated the local people of Daktater Bheri, Moktarer Bheri and Uttar Kankandighi under Kankandighi Gram Panchayat to reconstruct the embankments through its “Food for Work” Project. Mukti in collaboration with West Bengal Government is helping the local people to repair the embankments. Mukti is providing grocery items (Rice – 3 Kg, Dal- 300 Gram) and Rs. 100/- to 600 workers who are engaged with this repairing work.
