Mukti, a socio-economic development organization, has been working in the most backward regions of South 24 Parganas. This region includes a large underprivileged population residing in the Sundarban region, where Mukti has implemented various developmental programs to promote education, empowerment, livelihood and economy. From the education and empowerment platform, through a Coaching Centre Program, Mukti promotes quality education, access to higher education, develops life-skills, and creates employability of children at the grassroots. Since 2006, MUKTI has been running 9 coaching centers and more than 1100 students have benefited from this project thus far. To promote quality education, Mukti organized a “Special Coaching Program” as in previous years. This year, the program was held on 28th and 29th January for 175 candidates of the 2015 Board Exams at Nagendrapur Hemantakumari High School of Nagendrapur. The whole-day program was facilitated by experienced and renowned teachers from Dumdum KK Hindu Academy, and aimed at enhancing the students’ capacity to write the upcoming board examinations. Apart from the seven external teachers, there were twenty four teachers from Mukti’s coaching center who helped to conduct the session successfully.
In this special coaching program, the teachers provided important notes on different subjects to the participants. The teachers also guided the students in avoiding common mistakes in the examination hall. Moreover, they gave guidance about time management skills during the exam and mentored the student about prioritization of questions to score better marks in exams. It is quite common for students to have fear and anxiety before and during their final exams. To overcome exam fear and motivate the pupils, teachers gave some psychological guidance as well. This special coaching boosted the candidates’ spirits and motivated them in their exam preparations.
