Mukti organized an insightful horticulture training session for the women of Mukti Gram at the Mukti library premises on the 5th of June 2023. This empowering event witnessed the active participation of 72 enthusiastic women eager to enhance their horticultural knowledge and skills. Leading the training were Mukti’s experienced horticulturists, Jhantu Maity and Gofur Molla.
During the session, the trainers delved into various aspects of horticulture, including the establishment of a micro nursery and the techniques of cutting and grafting for tree propagation. The women learned about the benefits of operating a nursery, such as generating income and contributing to the community’s greening efforts. Mukti offered its support by providing the mother plants for their nurseries free of cost, enabling them to produce seedlings at their own homes.
Furthermore, Mukti assured the women that the saplings grown in their nurseries would be purchased at the agreed seedling rate, ensuring a sustainable income source for the beneficiaries. As part of the initiative, Mukti devised a comprehensive compensation plan, whereby the beneficiaries would receive a cost return for setting up their nurseries. This return would comprise 25% cash and 75% in the form of food support, fostering both economic stability and food security.
Recognizing that some beneficiaries might face challenges in cutting and grafting techniques, Mukti extended its assistance by offering support at their office. Additionally, Mukti expressed its willingness to conduct further training sessions if needed, emphasizing their commitment to women’s success in horticulture.
The overarching objective of this initiative is to establish numerous micro nurseries within Mukti village, thereby contributing to the production of a significant number of trees. In doing so, this initiative not only aims to create livelihood opportunities for the women of the village but also promotes environmental sustainability and community development.
