Sunderbans, the largest delta on the planet earth is famous for its marine and estuarine fish resources. A large population is dependent on fishery activity and it is treated as the backbone of Sundarban economy.<\/p>\n

Mukti has a plan to generate a large number of rural employments through aquaculture. The small-scale fish farming requires less capital and more labour. The woman workers of SHG may easily be engaged in fish farming.<\/p>\n

Objectives of Pisciculture:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  1. To establish a small local hatchery to secure local availability of quality carp fingerlings.<\/li>\n
  2. Secure supply of fingerlings to the local consumers through a number of local fish farmers.<\/li>\n
  3. Poor farmers can earn money by selling\u00a0fingerlings, fries and fish.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Areas of action:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The Pisciculture has started at the model village, Purba Sridharpur under Nagendrapur Gram Panchayat and Mathurapur Block II. There is a canal named \u201cPipremari\u201d and it\u2019s located on approx 10 acres of land. Along with this canal there are 3 ponds spread across 1 acre of area where Mukti primarily started this project.<\/p>\n

    After Amphan, the saline water changed the whole ecosystem of the ponds resulting death of the fishes. Mukti volunteers make the water reusable for both the human and fishes by draining out the saline water and by cleaning the water with lime. The ponds and the canal are refilled by fresh rain water to make it suitable for Pisciculture.<\/p>\n

    50-55 Kg. fingerlings of Rui, Katla, Mrigel, Telapia, Rupchand along with 3,000-4,000 \u201cmin\u201d (baby prawn) were spread in the canal. 150-160 families will get benefited.<\/p>\n

    6-7 Kg. fingerlings were spread in the pond along with \u201cmin\u201d. 14-15 families will be able to use the fishes of those ponds.<\/p>\n

    All the women of SHG (approx 150) under MCDF (Mukti Community Development Fund) will be given these fingerlings so in future run they will be able to earn through these fingerlings.<\/p>\n
