Mud embankments caved in as if they were landslide-prone hills of soft clay. These horrific portraits of devastation seen in the aftermath of Amphan across villages at Raidighi block one of the deltaic islands in Sunderban region, point at a deeper rot than the nature\u2019s wrath.<\/p>\n<p>Three to four days after destruction villagers with the help of Mukti were busy repairing the pretentious mud wall they call embankments to stop the ingress of saltwater into their agricultural fields and ponds. The ingression of saltwater had rendered swathes farmland unsuitable for agriculture for the next several years. AMPHAN smashed 8-10 km. of the river bund.<\/p>\n<p>About 15,000 \u2013 16,000 villagers of 8 villages are affected by the destruction of the river bund such as Purba Sridharpur Paschim Para, Purba sridharpur Purbopara, Purba Sridharpur Sarkar para, Purba Sridharpur Samanta para, Nagendrapur <u>U<\/u>ttar para, Nagendrapur Dakshin Para and Domkal kheya ghat to Makbul Bazar Tank.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-38747\" src=\"http:\/\/localhost\/mukti-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/0b5bdfdb-948b-4f55-8231-f9c1b148970f-169x300.jpg\" alt=\"0b5bdfdb-948b-4f55-8231-f9c1b148970f\" width=\"169\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Under Mukti\u2019s \u201cFood for Work\u201d project, 20 local women of Purba Sridharpur are working and another 200 will join them soon.
